More Proof That Kindness Is Contagious!
I love this quote, from Joseph Ferrari:
“If we had people reading about random acts of kindness it would spread and people would help more people.”
That’s EXACTLY what Good Virus is all about, making sure people hear about all of the tremendous acts of kindness that occur every day. The media tends to latch on to the horrible things that people do and we need to change that trend.
I found the quote while reading about a study by Simone Schnall that also, like the Fowler/Christakis Study, supports the notion that kindness is contagious:
When we see someone else help another person it gives us a good feeling, which in turn causes us to go out and do something altruistic ourselves, the study found, which was the first of its kind to systematically document this tendency in human nature.
“When you feel this sense of moral ‘elevation’ not only do you say you want to be a better person and help others,” said Simone Schnall, of Cambridge, the lead researcher. “But you actually do when the opportunity presents itself.”
It’s surprising how much evidence exists to support how important kindness is to the success and survival of our species and yet I still find myself in arguments where people insist that nice guys finish last!
